Inscription
The inscription on Thomas's grave is in Latin. This is the inscription on Thomas Gordon's grave in English
In hope of a happy resurrection here is deposited what in Thomas Gordon was found mortal: who being descended from an ancient family of Pitlurg in Scotland could have gloried, had that been proper, in his extraction yet in him was not wanting that of which he might justly boast, for as the Secretary of the Province he exerted his best abilities in behalf of the councils of the State acceptably to all. Dear to his relations, a sincere worshiper of the eternal deity, he enjoyed life, and died with resignation on the 28th day of April, in the year of our Lord 1722, in the 70th year of his age. His mourning consort who also desires to be interred here, has caused this monument such as it is, to be set.
