MUNCIE-Lucy I. Bookout, 81, died late Thursday evening, November 4, 2004 at Waters of Yorktown following an extended illness.
She was born in Fleming County, KY, the daughter of Samuel B. and Pearl E. Tolliver Curtis, graduated from Flemingsburg High School there, and later attended Business College in Kentucky.
Lucy came to the Muncie area at the age of 18 and was employed for more than twenty years with Hotel Roberts (then the Van Orman) and later with Pixie Diner, Pixie Restaurant and Ball State University prior to her retirement in 1976.
She was a member of Wilmore United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #237, Women of Moose, Chapter #712, Eagles Auxiliary #231, Warner Gear Sympathy Club, Ball State University Sympathy Club, and the Senior Citizens of Delaware County and the Ross Center.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann Sayers; one daughter-in-law, Joella Thomason; five grandchildren, Greg Sayers, Heather Lehman, Brian Thomason, Lynn Jacobs and Jason Thomason; eight great-grandchildren, Rhiannon Younts, Joseph Greene, Allec Thomason, Cade Jacobs, Anna Cate Jacobs, Lucas Lehman, Maxwell Lehman and Greer Sayers; three sisters, Freida J. Marshall, Albany, Fanny Wood, Muncie and Ruth Kiser, Morehead, KY; two brothers, Wendall Curtis, Portsmouth, NH and Bruce Curtis, Cincinnati, OH; sister-in-law, Roberta Bookout; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by three husbands, Leo Thomason, Malcolm Owen and Chester Bookout; a son, Leonard Thomason; a grandson Bradley Thomason; four sisters, Suda Thomas, Blanche Throckmorton, Bernice Harris and Marie Dyer; two brothers Donald and David Curtis; three half-sisters, Mae Hefflin, Ida Curtis, Ressie Curtis; and half-brother Elmar Curtis.
Services will be held in THE MEEKS MORTUARY and CREMATORY Chapel at 11:30 a.m., Monday. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery.
Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday or one hour prior to service time on Monday.
