British music specialist, writer. He was a pioneer in the development of stereo techniques that helped heighten the dramatic quality of aural opera. He was best known for his stereophonic recording of Wagner's "Der Ring Des Nibelungen" which was performed in its entirety by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1965, with Sir Georg Solti. Culshaw also wrote the book "Ring Resounding" (1967), a weekly column for High Fidelity Magazine and was head of Music Programmes for the BBC from 1967 to 1975.
