NAPOLEON -- Ross Knute Kleppe, 73, Napoleon, died April 18, 2000, in the Wishek hospital. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kintyre, with the Rev. Victor St. George officiating. Burial will be in Tell Cemetery, rural Kintyre.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ross was born on Feb. 28, 1927, in rural Kintyre, the son of Rasmus O. and Martha (Knudsen) Kleppe. Ross attended grade school in rural Kintyre and graduated from Napoleon High School in 1946. On June 26, 1949, Ross was married to Irene Merkel at Braddock. Ross then entered the Dakota Business College in Fargo, and graduated in 1951 with a degree in accounting. In 1952, Ross was drafted into the army and served as a staff sergeant during the Korean War. While serving in the military, he earned the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and the United States Service Medal. Following his honorable discharge, Ross and Irene began farming in rural Kintyre. They eventually moved to the farm which was homesteaded by Ross's parents. In 1995, he retired from farming and the couple moved to Napoleon where they reside. Ross was very proud to be an active member of the Barry Hoff American Legion Post No. 72, the Bismarck Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326, Napoleon Golden Age Club, Tell Cemetery Board and Trinity Lutheran Church. He also served as Tell Township Assessor for many decades.

Survivors include: his wife, Irene Kleppe, Napoleon; a son, James (Brenda) Kleppe, Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Jennifer (Randy) Schumacher, Napoleon; three very special grandchildren, Sarah Kleppe and Justin and Jerrod Schumacher. He also leaves two sisters, Elly Kleppe, Billings, Mont., and Astrid (Orville) Helmle, Santa Cruz, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Olav Kleppe.
