Valeen was born in Smithfield, UT on September 3, 1937 to Grant and Lila Anderson. She graduated from Montebello High School in California, and later attended BYU.
She married Laurence Frank "Bud" Holgate on April 4, 1968 in the Manti, UT Temple for time and all eternity.
She served an LDS mission to the Great Lakes Mission and later served an inner-city mission in Salt Lake from 2000-2002 with Bud. She served extensively in the Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary and loved to teach.
She loved music and was even blessed with the gift of perfect pitch. She played the piano and organ and sang as often as she could. In her spare time, she would knit, crochet, and piece quilts. She shared her gifts of love, kindness, and compassion to all that knew her. Her greatest joys were found when she was with her family.
Valeen is survived by her husband; her three children-Gretchen (Darin) Haskell, Matt (Andrea) Holgate, and Elizabeth (Bill) Merritt; her grandchildren-Jared, Steven, Kristen, Alexandra, Spencer, and Emma; her brother, LaMar (Joanne) Anderson; and sister, Linda (Doug) Stuart. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Beth (George) Skyles.
Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at viewings on Sunday, April 10, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (10400 South), South Jordan, and Monday, April 11th, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the Country Crossing LDS Chapel, 11173 South Copper Point Way (3275 West), South Jordan. Funeral Services will directly follow at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will take place in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 13001 South 3600 West, Riverton.
