He worked in the shipping department for Eureka Electrical Products Inc., retiring in 1985. He graduated from North East High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 105 and an honorary member of Crescent Hose Co. in North East. He enjoyed golf, bowling and watching college and professional sports.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Wolf Gartner, whom he married May 8, 1945; a son, Russ Gartner and his wife, Janet, of Lake Ridge, Va.; a brother, Ed Gartner and his wife, Margaret, of North East; and two granddaughters.
Burial will be at North East Cemetery.
