"Rosie" Veazey was the 9th of 13 children born to Zachary Taylor Veazey & Rhoda Ann Hunt Veazey. She was born in Alexander City, Tallapoosa Co, AL.

She was married to William Arthur Hand in Chambers Co., AL December 11, 1904 with Pastor G. D. Hunt officiating.

HIAWASSEE – Graveside services for Mrs. Rosie Matthews of Hiawassee, a former resident of Tifton, who died here Tuesday (January 22, 1985) will be held in Tifton Friday at 1 p.m. in Lawrence Cemetery on Hwy 82 East.

Born July 11, 1886, in Alabama, Mrs. Matthews was a daughter of the late Z. T. Veazey and Rhoda Ann Veazey. She was a member of Vanceville Congregational Christian Church in Vanceville where she was a charter member of the church built in 1918. Her first husband was W. A. Hand, Sr. and she was the widow of Marion Matthews.

Survivors include one son, W. A. Hand Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Pettigrew of Hiawassee; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and nine great, great grandchildren.

One daughter, Mrs. Olin Sellars, preceded her in death.

Bannister Funeral Home here is in charge of arrangements.

She was the mother of mother of five children:

Helen Elizabeth Hand
Mary Frances Hand - died in infancy.
