Mary Emily Juhan Hagood was born to Judge Francis Ferdinand Juhan (1832-1913) and his wife, Narcissie Elizbeth Ivie Juhan (1841-1897) on September 4, 1875. She was married on December 24, 1891 to Jasper Lewis Hagood (1870-1913). They were parents of nine children. Mary Hagood was an active member of the Lawrencevile Methodist Church and was a leader in the civic and social life of Gwinett County. She was left with seven children and one unborn child at the death of her husband in 1913. She bravely raised them by herself in the home and on the property given her by her father. The property now is the site of the Tom M. Wages Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. Mary Hagood died on December 8, 1932 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta following major surgery. She was preceded in death by two sons, Asbury Juhan and Frank Meadows Hagood., Mary Hagood was survived by four sons, Victor Lee, William Ivie, Jasper Lois, Jr., and Benjamin Oliver, and by three daughters, Margaret Hagood Copeland, Mary Hagood Tanner, and Miss Annie Ruth Hagood who married Thomas E. Cash in 1933. Mary Emily Hagood is buried in Shadowlawn Cemetery beside her husband and baby son, Asbury Juhan Hagood, on the Hagood-Cash lot. Her daughter, Annie Cash and her husband and son Thomas Elry Cash, Sr. and Thomas Elry Cash, Jr. are also buried on this lot.
