J. P. ANDERSON, SHOP SUPT., DIES
Stricken Suddenly Last Evening at N. P. Hospital; Shock Felt by Entire City
Active in Masonic Lodge, Service Clubs, Scouts, Woodmen, Red Cross, DeMolay, Y. M. C. A.
John Peter Anderson, superintendent of the Northern Pacific shops here since 1904 and an outstanding Brainerd citizen died suddenly October 14 at the N. P. B. A. hospital, St. Paul. His body was to be returned to Brainerd this afternoon when funeral arrangements will be completed.
Death was directly attributed to a blood clot. His demise came suddenly and unexpected as it was believed that he was on the road to recovery from the operation he undertook a week ago Saturday for hernia.
News of his death spread rapidly here last night after the first report came from St. Paul, such a report coming as a distinct shock to his many friends and business associates.
Mr. Anderson was born in Norland, Sweden, December 25, 1869. He came to America with his parents and settled in Brainerd in 1881. Since that time he has lived in Brainerd except for a few years in Superior, Wis. He was married in 1898 to Christine Ericksen of Superior. Six children have been born to them.
Surviving are his widow, one daughter, Mrs. W. W. Koop of Minneapolis and three sons, John Henry, Robert Scott and Richard William, all of Brainerd and residing at the family residence, 523 North Fifth Street.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the First Congregational church and a Mason of the Blue Lodge and Royal Arch chapter No. 42 of Brainerd, also of the Eastern Star, the Rotary club, the Chamber of Commerce, the Modern Woodmen of America, and the Scandinavian-American Fraternity.
He was active in Boy Scout work, and advisor of the DeMolay, vice president of the Red Cross Chapter and a director of the Y. M. C. A.
In his association with the Northern Pacific railway for 45 years he came to know the men and their needs and as an official he was highly respected and admired.
The family requests no flowers be sent for the funeral.
Funeral arrangements completed late this afternoon call for Masonic services with Rev. N. P. Olmsted officiating at the home Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Interment will be made at Evergreen Cemetery. (Brainerd Daily Dispatch, Friday, 17 October 1930; p. 1)
