A native of Clay County, he had lived in Lexington, NC, before moving to St. Cloud in 1968.
He was the son of the late William Walker and Emmaline Crawford Battle. He was a retired furniture finisher and was a member of St. Cloud First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Nannie Mae Raxter Battle; two daughters, Catherine Coffey of St. Cloud, FL, and Louise Heath of Sycamore, GA; two sons, Robert E. Battle of St. Cloud, FL, and William N. Battle of Lexington, NC; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services were at 11 a.m. Monday, June 29, in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews with the Rev. Henry Heath officiating. Burial was in Valleytown Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
