Elmer Adelbert Giggey, age 89, was welcomed home by the angels following a lingering illness on March 27, 2011.

Elmer was born August 21, 1921 on his grandfather's ranch near Pine Cliff, Colorado to J. Benning and Gertrude Crosby Giggey. Elmer's younger life was spent in Boulder, Colorado with the exception of seven years in Steamboat Springs.

Elmer married Betty Marie Grove in 1940 and together they raised six children. They were later divorced. On June 11, 1971, he married Lorna Yvonna Hansen Drawe. With this union came six children.

Elmer's earlier years were spent working in the Tungsten and Gold mines in Colorado. He served his country in World War II, being in the U.S. Army 314 Combat Engineers attached to the 89th division where they fought their way through the middle of Germany.

After the war, Elmer moved his family to the Uintah Basin, where he honed his artistic skills to create beautiful homes. He built and remodeled many homes all throughout the western states.

In 1954, he moved his family to Salt Lake, where he continued with his contracting business, Giggey & Sons. He often took the kids on trips with him during the summer, taking pride in teaching the tricks of his trade.
Elmer was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings. He loved to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His passion was writing short stories and novels. He also enjoyed singing with his wife Lorna, playing the guitar, and making tile-art pictures. He had many talents. Elmer will be remembered for his generous love. He has left his family with memories galore.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Lorna Giggey; sons: Richard (Sharon) Giggey, Randy (Janie) Drawe, Daniel (Mary) Drawe, Mark (Amy) Drawe; daughters: Linda (James) Babovec, Renae (David) Medina, Dianna (Brett) Kearney; thirty-nine grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandsons; his cat Miss Kitty; and many friends. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl Giggey; sister, Gertrude Giggey; sons: Dennis Giggey, Ronald Giggey, David Drawe; daughters: Sandra Carlson, Yvonna Evans; grandsons: Kevin Carlson, Alan Pack.

The memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 in the Westshire Ward Chapel, 2850 West 3835 South, and will begin at 10:00 a.m., where there will be a viewing before the funeral at 9:00-9:45 a.m.
