h/ Anna Marie Beier Yost
s/ Johannes Heinrich & Anna Elizabetha Doll Jost
From the "North Platte Telegraph", January 1923:
"Henry Yost was born in Germany November 9, 1834 and died at North Platte, Nebraska, January 29, 1923 at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 20 days. In 1859 he was married to Miss Anna Beier, whom he survived by a few months. He was a harness maker and learned his trade in the old country, but when his family began to increase and grow older he disposed of his entire possessions there and sailed for America. He came to this country as he said many times, so his boys would not have to serve in the German army and to better his own condition.
He was the father of twelve children of whom nine are living. Upon arriving in the United States he came direct to North Platte where some of his relatives had already preceded him. It was April 1886 when they reached here and within the next week he had started the children of school age into the public schools. He engaged in the harness and saddlery business for a number of years before he finally retired.
He was a member of the Lutheran church in which denomination all of his children were confirmed. His faithful wife died just a few months before he passed away, they having been preceded by three of their children.
Those who survive are Chas. Yost, Wm. Yost, A.T. Yost, Mrs. George Scharmann, Mrs. Ella Thayer, Mrs. Chris Brodbeck, and Miss Caroline Yost of this city, Mrs. Mary Dill of Chicago and Mrs. T.V. Austin of Omaha. At the time of his death Mr. Yost had twenty six grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. The funeral was held Wednesday, January 31 from the Lutheran church and burial was in North Platte Cemetery.
Henry Yost was one of the sturdy old settlers of this community, who has helped make North Platte what it is and judged by the standard of success of his children, he was an unusual citizen. He had a wide circle of friends among the older people, all of whom will miss him."
