Esther A. Armstrong Lussman, age 78, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Friday, January 14, 2005 at the Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, with Reverend Tom Egger officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call anytime after 4:00 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2005, where family will greet friends from 6-8 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Esther A. Hartje was born on March 2, 1926 to Henry and Marie (Wellman) Hartje in rural Storm Lake. She lived with her family in Lincoln Township and attended Zion Lutheran School in Grant Township. On March 21, 1926, Esther was baptized and later confirmed on March 17, 1940 at Zion Lutheran Church where she remained a faithful member.

On March 2, 1952, Esther was united in marriage to Merlyn C. Armstrong at Zion Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three sons, Dale, Glen and Gary. On July 14, 1991, she married Harold Lussman at Zion Lutheran Church.

Esther loved her family and was devoted to them. She was a housewife, who was active in the farming duties, as well as gardening and raising chickens. She enjoyed quilting, fishing and going on trips. Esther was fond of spending time with her family, for whom she often cooked big meals for their gatherings. She cherished her time in Minnesota at the cabin, loved to plan parties and cherished spending time with her special friend, Dee. Harold and Esther also enjoyed a special trip to Colorado. She and her sister Lora were more than sisters, they were life-long friends as well.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Harold Lussman of Storm Lake; her sons, Dale Armstrong and his wife Sandra of Storm Lake, Glen Armstrong and his wife Carolyn of Albert City and Gary Armstrong and his wife Gail of Bedford, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Brandon Armstrong and his wife Tasha, Justin and Tyler Armstrong, Randi and Kerri Armstrong, Ryan, Jacob and Rachel Armstrong; one sister, Lora Hartje and many extended family and friends.

Preceding Esther in death are her parents, Henry and Marie Hartje; two brothers: William Hartje and Albert Hartje; one sister, Irene Rathke; one sister-in-law, Elsie Hartje; one brother-in-law, Paul Rathke; and her first husband Merlyn Armstrong.
