From the Oregonian, 8 Nov. 1942:

Two Portland aviation cadets this week were graduated from the primary flying course at the seventh army air forces flying training detachment at Oxnard, Cal., and now will go to a basic flying school to continue their training...James A. Calnon, son of Mrs. D. C. Calnon, 2835 N. E. 55th Avenue. Calnon, who earned the rank of Cadet Flight Sergeant, also was editor of the school publication, "Crosswind."

Lieutenant Calnon Rites Set Monday

Funeral services for Second Lieutenant James Ashley Calnon, 25, will be Monday at 9:30 a. m. in St. Rose Catholic Church with interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Recitation of the Rosary will be Sunday at 7 p. m. at Hennessey, Goetsch, and McGee chapel. He was one of 11 men killed when an army bomber crashed recently near the army air base in Ephrata, Wash. He only recently completed his army basic training at Mitner Field, California.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Clay Calnon; brother, Donald, and sister, Beth Marcella, Portland, and grandmother, Mrs. E. E. Ashley. The family home is at 2835 N. E. 55th Avenue.
