Wife of Charles Preston Kinard, married in Lake Charles, Louisiana, January 20, 1917. He was born April 27, 1879 in Miss., and was an engineer with the Gulf Coast Railroad in 1918-1920.

They had a daughter Rebecca Inge Kinard, born 1918.

In 1930, Lelia Ramsey Kinard was living in Los Angeles, California, shown in the census as a widow and a dentistry nurse with her 12-year-old daughter Rebecca.

In the 1930 and 1940 censuses, Charles Kinard, divorced, was living in Alexandria, Louisiana.

Baton Rouge ADVOCATE, Aug. 30, 1936, p.6, column 7:
News of Mrs. E.P. Clunan who has been in New York City since the early part of the month with her children, Doris and Russell, tells that she is now in Long Island, N.Y., as the guest of her sister, Mrs. Lelia Kinard.





Another Lelia Ramsey graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1908. This was 10-year-old Leila's aunt Lelia Ramsey (born 18 Dec 1891), as are perhaps all but one or two of these newspaper references:

New Orleans Times Picayune, June 3, 1901, p. 10, refers to "Miss Leila Ramsey, Lake Charles," who was a high school student in her junior year. She was the daughter of Jones C. and Jessie Ramsey, uncle of three-year-old Leila Ramsey from Water Valley. She was a sister of Harry Kyle and Davilla Ramsey.

New Orleans Times Picayune, Jan. 7, 1906, part II p. 4, col. 6: Lake Charles.
"The Young Ladies' Cooking Club gave a delightful dinner and reception Thursday night at the home of Miss Davella Ramsey in honor of Mrs. L.B. Knox. The dinner was prepared by the members themselves, and was a success. Among those present were: Misses Davella Ramsey, May and Bertha Kirkwood, May and Annie Williams, Zoe Gorham, Grace Martin and Margaret Jessen, Messrs. Abbott Gorham, George Luly, Kyle Ramsey, E.L. Gorham, Edgar Williams, R.S. Knox, Will Gorham, and J.A. Williams. The young ladies were assisted in serving by misses Willie Kirkwood, Minnie Gorham, Helen Vincent and Leila Ramsey.

Miss Lelia Ramsey has returned from a delightful trip of several weeks spent with friends in Baton Rouge."

Kyle Ramsey, Percy Smith, Paul Zimmerman, M.G. Taylor, W.R. Archer, Loree Briggs, Brude George, J.P. Barremore, Ned Sullivan, Wil Braden; Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Loree, Mr. and Mrs. Hosa Loree, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Leake, Mr. and Mrs. David Livingston, Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Rushworth."

New Orleans Item, June 10, 1912, p.9, column 1: "Mrs. L.J. Bell entertained at her home in Lake Charles informally four tables at cards for Miss Sproule. Five hundred was the diversion. The home was adorned with clusters of roses. The tallies pictured hand-touched woodland scenes. Ice was served. The guests included Misses May Sproule, Minnie Gorham, Annie Williams, Grace Martin, Lollie Marshall, Leila Ramsey, May Williams; Messrs. J.A. Williams, Kyle Ramsey, Wade Marshall, Edgar Williams, John Martin, Joe Lennox; Mr. and Mrs. R.R. Stone."

"A dance was given by the Shriners at the Majestic Hotel Saturday night. Among those present were Misses Hattie and Annabelle Williamson, Lelia Ramsey, Dolly Cline....

New Orleans Times Picayune, Aug. 15, 1915, p. 3: "Lake Charles, La., Aug. 14.--Practically all of the teachers for the city schools have been secured, although contracts are being signed only for a four months' term. ...Those to whom contracts have been forwarded are the following: ...Lelia Ramsey."
