Euna Cleo Gaddis attended public school from 1896-1910 in Ft. Jesup, Louisiana, Louisiana
State University at Pineville, Southwestern in Lafayette, A & M College in Ft. Collins, Colorado and University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Arkansas. At the age of 16 she began teaching school having obtained a teacher's certificate by passing an examination provided by the State Department of Education. She taught 2 years, then married James Leon Dykes at the age of 19. Four years later, 1914, one child was born and in Nov 1918 she became a widow. She returned to teaching, taught in winter sessions and attended college in summer sessions. She taught 4 years then was Principal of a rural school near Pleasant Hill, also in Flora, Louisiana for 1 year. She also taught in Oberlin, Louisiana Primary and High School. During the summer of 1922 she took training at Louisiana State University for Home Demonstration Work and worked as Agent at Large from Sep-Dec 31, 1922. In 1923 she was assigned to Leesville, Louisiana as Home Demonstration Agent and was transferred to Alexandria, Rapides Parish, Louisiana until she married 2nd 31 Dec 1939 John Alford Spielman and lived on a Dairy Plantation in Rosalie, 5 miles south of Alexandria, La. While on a trip to California, Mr. Spielman d. 12 Nov 1946. She returned to Home Demonstration work in Franklin Parish, Winnsboro, Louisiana for 2 yrs and was transferred to Monroe, Louisiana where she retired 17 Jan 1957. In 1940 she received the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Phi Society Award for Distinguished Service to Louisiana Homemakers. In 1956 she was selected by Northeast District Home Demonstration Agents to receive the "Award of Distinguished Service," given by the National Home Demonstration Assn. at National meeting in Minneapolis, Minn. She is a member of the Methodist Church, Women's Missionary Society, Pilot Club, Eastern Star, Garden Clubs, Home EC. Assn., H.D.A. Assn., Retired Civil Service Assn.
In 1959 Euna Cleo Dykes bought a home in Memphis, Tenn. near her daughter.
