Thomas Francis Farrell was a colorful figure in Republican political circles in Wayne County and the City of Detroit, Michigan. He served as Wayne County Clerk from 1908-1933 and is credited with indexing 26,176 naturalization cases; revising 66 years of corporate and business association records; and returning money with interest to the litigants. Thomas also instituted a systematic court bond filing system, which eliminated days of researching unindexed bonds.

Thomas also served as Director of the First State Bank in Hamtramack and at some point, he was a Clerk for the Police Court in Detroit. He and his wife, Pauline (Lena), lived at the shores of Lake Huron in Lexington, Michigan.

Although Thomas and Lena did not have any children of their own, they raised and later adopted, two nephews, John and William Pfeifle. The boys appear to have been the sons of Lena's brother, William Pfeifle, and his wife, Hazel.

During their retirement years, Thomas and Lena resided in Miami, Florida. They traveled extensively and vacationed in many parts of the world.
