Cynthia L. Smith
Cynthia L. "Momma" Smith, age 54 of Milo, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. Cynthia was born on January 7, 1957 in Kansas City, MO to Stephen J. and Betty Lou (Brown) Ruddick. On October 8, 1976 she was married to Richard L Smith and he survives of the home.
Cynthia grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1975. She later attended Missouri Southern State College. Cynthia worked for the Nevada Public Library for a number of years and for Dr. Bondi in Nevada from 1993-2005. She was a member of the Pine Street Baptist Church where she had been active in the Children's and Youth Ministries of the Church, a former Sunday School Teacher, and Vacation Bible School Director. She was also active in the MO Baptist Disaster Relief, The American Red Cross, and was very proud of her involvement with Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief having spent five weeks volunteering there. She was also a long time volunteer with "Stand Down" a non-profit organization benefiting homeless and disabled veterans.
In addition to her husband Richard, she is survived by one daughter, Kim See, one son Michael Smith, and a grandson, Andrew See. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Chad Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
