Death: Mar. 17, 1953

Augustus Monroe Blackmon was the son of Harmon C. Blackmon and Lucy Julia Cain. After the civil war his parents brought him (while still an infant) to Texas by boat and then by covered wagon from Florida.

In the late 1800's it was possible to become an attorney by studying law under a practicing attorney. It is believed that Augustus used this procedure to become an attorney. He took his bar exams in Waco, Texas and was admitted into the bar on August 26, 1892. In the early 1900's he was elected as a county judge and served two terms. Judge Blackmon at one time was the hardest working and busiest judge in Texas, for he was on the bench during the heyday of the Mexia oil boom. His docket was crowded with both criminal and civil cases.

Augustus married Lula Belle Camp on June 6, 1893 in Groesbeck. He was 25 and she was barely 19 at the time of their marriage which was destined to last for 60 years. They had four daughters, three which survived to adulthood:

Lucie Juliet Blackmon (18971985)
Augusta Monroe Blackmon (19021905)
Rosamond Blackmon (19041978)
Isabel Blackmon (19071986)
