Estherville – Services for Vesta Marguerite Harding, 87, of Estherville, will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22 at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with Reverence Dr. Carrol Usher presiding. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. She died Tuesday, August 18 at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge.

Friends may call at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 21.

She was born on September 19, 1904 in Salem, S.D., the daughter of Omen and Ruby (Noble) Gardner. She was educated in Graettinger schools. She grew up on a farm near Belvidere, S.D. until 1917 when her family moved to a farm N.E. of Graettinger. Following her education, she taught in rural Emmet County schools for two years. She married Kenneth Harding on January 13, 1925 in Estherville and the couple made their home in Jack Creek Township. They moved to Estherville in 1947 where Mr. Harding worked as an insurance agent until his death in 1963. She was a member of the United Methodist Churches in Estherville and Ft. Dodge, the United Methodist Women, was district officer of United Methodist Women, a member of the Alpha Club and the CCC Club of Jack Creek Township.

Survivors include two daughters, Marvis Lundgren of Ringsted and Helen Usher of Grand Prairie, Texas; two brothers – Lloyd Gardner of Cedar Falls and Stanley Gardner of Burbank, Calif.; and one sister – Edith Vasey of Puyallup, Wash. Other survivors include five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson, her parents, two sisters and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 19, 1992)
