Austro-Hungarian immigrant* of Slovak descent, arriving at the port of Baltimore, Maryland November 3, 1898 after departing from Bremen, Germany aboard the steamship "München" two weeks earlier. Final destination was Toledo, Ohio to reside with her brother, Gyorgy Ferencsik.** Formerly of Csekes (Csecs), Hungary—a village in Northern Hungary, Zemplen District, near Damoc and Zemplenagard (Carpatho-Rusyn villages). Spoke Slovak. Relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, marrying in 1899 another Austro-Hungarian immigrant of Slovak descent, Joseph John Stracka, her husband of nearly 15 years. Six children/four survived. Died, 30, of encephalitis. --- SOURCES: *Born in Klukno, Szepes County, Austria-Hungary (Kluknava, Košice Region, eastern Slovak Republic) to Andreas & Ludmila (Rodak) Ferencsik per her 1899 Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese marriage record. **Speculation suggests that the "Maria Ferencsik" listed on the passenger manifest is the same individual who later married Joseph John Stracka.
