Mrs. Abby Chase Snow
We are again called upon to add another name to the roll of the departed among our prominent neighbors and citizens. We refer to Mrs. Abby Chase Snow, wife of Dr. Peter S. Snow, and the honored mother of our late lamented senator, Charles H. B. Snow. She died this morning about 6 o'clock, aged 85 years, 1 month, and 19 days.
Mrs. Snow was a daughter of Major Metaphor Chase of Leominster, in which town she was born March 24, 1797, but her married life of more than 60 years was passed in Fitchburg, here she is remembered by many of our older citizens as one of the sweet singers of church music of a former generation and even to the day of the accident which caused her death, she was in the daily habit of preceding at her favorite instrument. Her letters of love and friendship were models of penmanship and language, besides, she showed in her occasional paintings that she possessed artistic talent remarkable for an octogenarian. She was a lady of great sweetness of disposition, of refined and generous culture and an excellent neighbor, in the writer has abundant occasion to know, a loving, deversed wife and mother.
Mrs. Snow retained her faculties and vivacity in a marked degree to the last and leaves a memory fragrant with kind and domestic virtues, long to be cherished by those who enjoyed her friendship and confidence. Dr. and Mrs. Snow were married April 29th, 1819, by Rev. William .......... ............ of Leominster.
