Etta M. Farthing, 84, died early Saturday morning at the Pioneer Nursing Home. She was born November 12, 1893, in West Jefferson, North Carolina, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Gentry. She married John Clyde Farthing in 1909 at Cottonwood, Idaho. They came to Montana in 1914 settling in the Gibson area on a ranch. Later they purchased the Abe Kelsie ranch. In 1947 they moved to Reed Point, Montana, and operated the Reed Point Hotel. After Mr. Farthing's death in 1957 she moved to Big Timber where she had resided since. Mrs. Farthing was a member of the Baptist Church, and a member of the Memorial Library Club of Reed Point. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1957, a son, Donald, in 1974, a daughter, Josephine Ray, in 1968, two brothers and 4 sisters. Survivors include one son, John Farthing of Big Timber; three daughters, Mrs. Georgia Jones and Mrs. Nettie Nevin, both of Big Timber, and Mrs. Leah Weamer Wright of Livingston; one brother, Herman Gentry of Jefferson, North Carolina; one sister, Mattie Jacobs of Clarkston, Washington; 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren. Services were Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Lowry Funeral Home with Rev. Garry Weems of the Evangelical Free Church officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery.
Organist and soloist were Mr. and Mrs. David Roys. Selections were "Beyond the Sunset" and "Beautiful Isle." Pallbearers were Kenneth C. Jones, Daryl Blumhagen, Leo Ray, Roy Weamer, Jim Weamer and Robert Nevin.
