DIES AT AGE OF FOUR SCORE YEARS
E.P. Denton Passes Away at Home in Oakland - Wife and Nine Children Survive
Edmond P. Denton was born near Greenview, Menard county, Ill., January 21, 1851, and passed to his reward at his home in Oakland, Ia., March 31, 1931, aged 80 years, 2 months and 10 days.
He was married to Miss Maria Killion at Greenview, Ill., March 3, 1870, taking his bride to a farm near Greenview, where they made their home for 11 years. To this union were born seven sons--Joseph. A. of Bladen, Neb.; Robert E., deceased; George E. of Cowles, Neb.; Charles R. of Bladen, Neb.; John K., Roy A. and Harry R. of Oakland, Ia.; also five daughters--Mrs. Carrie Rogers of Bladen, Neb.; Nellie M., deceased; Mrs. Mattie Bates and Mrs. Annie M. Hart of Oakland, Ia., and Edna Pearl, who died in infancy.
In the fall of 1881 Mr. and Mrs. Denton moved with their family to a farm near Neola, Pottawattamie county, Iowa, and a year later to the old home farm west of Oakland, where the family grew to manhood and womanhood.
Mr. Denton was successul in all his farming operations and added to his holdings as opportunity permitted. Twenty-three years ago Mr. and Mrs. Denton retired from active farm life and moved to Oakland, where he spent his remaining days. However, he did not lose interest in his farm life and just a few days ago drove to his farm with some trees and directed their planting. He was ever interested in the welfare of his family, providing abundantly for their needs. "A real father" is the way the children express it.
He leaves to mourn his going his aged wife; six sons and three daughters; one brother and three sisters; 19 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and a host of friends and neighbors.

Various spellings of first name are found in records, but the 1880 and 1920 census docs, the Iowa birth certificate of daughter Anna M. Denton and the gravestone have the spelling of Edmond.
