Funeral Notice In The Elk County, Kansas I.O.O.F. Bulletin:

Worth Garland Burtch, son of Jacob Joseph and Caroline Burtch, was born July 22, 1853, at Jamestown (Jimtown), Gibson County, Indiana, where he grew to manhood. He came to Elk County, Kansas in 1872.

He married Sarah J. Tullis in 1875 and they have lived in Elk County continuously since then. They would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary, April 7th, had death not claimed him.

Three children were born to them. Norman E. Burtch of Chanute, Kansas; Mrs. James A. (Gertrude) Rowe of Sedan, Kansas; and Claudia Burtch, who died September 13, 1896 at the age of 12.

He was one of the family of seven brothers, but W.P. (Wesley P.) Burtch of Walla Walla, Washington, is now the only remaining member of his parents family. Besides this brother, and his son and daughter, mentioned above, Worth is survived by his wife and two grandchildren.

He was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows fraternity for many years. Serving in 1911 and again in 1923 as District Deputy Grand Master of Lodge #134 in Howard, Kansas.

Worth Burtch was a quiet, unassuming man, a kind and loving husband and father, a friendly accommodating neighbor, a loyal friend and a good citizen. He was respected by all who knew him, and his sorrowing family has the kindliest sympathy of all their friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held at the family residence at 10:00 Friday morning, conducted by Rev. J.W. Bayles of the Baptist Church. The Odd Fellows were in charge both at the house and at the cemetery where they gave their beautiful and expressive burial ceremony. Both the active and honorary pallbearers were chosen from the membership of the lodge. A quartet from the Baptist Church, Mrs. A.K. Rader, Miss Mildred Dickson, D.A. Eby, and Wm. Barackmen, Sr., furnished the music. Interment was made in Grace lawn Cemetery, Howard, Kansas.

Great-grandfather, I have heard so many wonderful stories about you. And I wonder if the tree is still standing in Howard, that you carved a snake on in 1931.
