Funeral services are scheduled Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Holloway Funeral Home for Gerald B. Truitt Sr., 76, retired Ocean City building contractor and former Ocean City councilman. Mr. Truitt, who served two terms as a councilman, died Tuesday at his home. He had been in failing health.
The Rev. William H. Mead, Episcopal Bishop of Delaware, will officiate. Interment will be in Parsons Cemetery.
Mr. Truitt was born in Philadelphia but was raised in the Pittsville area. His late parents were Joseph and Catherine Parsons Truitt. His wife, Mrs. Margaret Mary Atchison Truitt, died in 1970. He was a World War I Navy veteran.
Surviving are two sons, Gerald B. Truitt, Jr., Salisbury, and the Rev. G. William Truitt, pastor of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Seaford; five grandchildren; a half-brother, James Truitt, Long Island, N.Y., and a half-sister, Mrs. Helen Josephine Schnuriger, San Antonio, Texas.
A former motel operator in Ocean City, Mr. Truitt had at one time been a member of the Worcester County Republican State Central Committee. He was a member of the St. Luke's Church in Seaford. Additional memberships included the Ocean City Lions Club; a past Zone chairman of Lions District 22-B; the Ocean City American Legion Post; the William L. Elkins Masonic Lodge, Philadelphia; Boumi Shrine temple, Baltimore; the Scottish Rite; and the Eastern Shore and the Lower Delaware Shrine Clubs. Mr. Truitt was a 32nd degree Mason.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 7:30 to 9 p.m., where Masonic memorial services will be conducted at 8 p.m. by the Wicomico Masonic Lodge no. 91. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
The family suggests, that as a tribute to the memory of the deceased, contributions may be made to the memorial fund of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Seaford."
