Anna M. Borgman
October 3rd, 1909 - January 25th, 2011
Mrs. Anna M. Borgman,
age 101, of Grand Haven passed away peacefully at Heartwood Lodge on Tuesday, January 25, 2011. She was born October 3, 1909, in Grand Haven to William and Etta (Veltman) Mieras. She was a lifelong resident of Grand Haven and had attended Grand Haven High School. Anna worked for Bell Telephone Company for many years, and earlier she worked at the local glove factory. On May 27, 1937, she married Clarence Borgman and he preceded her in death on August 9, 1994. Anna was a volunteer salesperson for Christian Cottage Imports under the auspices of Christian Reformed World Relief Committee and was widely known by many local women for selling hundreds of beautiful products handmade by Filipino women. In earlier retirement years, Anna exhibited items at craft shows and other events with her husband, Clarence, and she also sold handmade craft items out of her home as a mission venture. She was also known to set up exhibit tables on the lawn at First Reformed Church during the Coast Guard Parade. Anna loved to bake and cook, and was always looking for new recipes. Anna loved her church, Second Christian Reformed Church, where she was actively involved with teaching Sunday School, helping with bazaars, and leading Bible studies. She also collected clothing for local children in need. Anna always showed her love and kindness to everyone, no matter who you were. Anna joined the Grand Haven Gideon Camp Auxiliary in 1973, served as secretary for several years, and regularly visited medical offices to distribute Testaments to nurses. Not having children of their own, the Borgmans frequently cared for children at their homes while the parents were on vacations. The Van Heuvelen children: Lisa, Bob, Kathy and Mike were loved and cared for like the Borgmans' own children. She is survived by sister-in-law, Florence Meyer of Holland; nephews: Bob Borgman, Rich Mieras, Bill Mieras, and Tom Mieras; niece, Bev Schiel; and several grand-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by friends: Lisa Rogers, Bob (Kelly) Van Heuvelen, Mike Van Heuvelen, Kathy (Scott) Dale and family, Arley and Jo Bouwma and family, and her friends at Christian Haven Home. She was preceded in death by her siblings. Services for Anna will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 28, 2011, at Second Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Michael Koetje officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in honor of Anna may be given to The Gideons International or Second Christian Reformed Church. Please sign the family's online guestbook at www.vbkfuneralhome.com. The family is being served by VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home of Grand Haven.
