Mrs. Catherine Ainsworth, 72, of Gautier, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2005 in Pascagoula.
Mrs. Ainsworth was born in Saucier, Mississippi on October 2, 1932. She was a resident of Gautier for 35 years.
She received her Bachelor's degree from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1970 with her Master's degree earned at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg in 1977.
With the opening of Gautier Junior High in 1970, Mrs. Ainsworth began her teaching career which spanned over 30 years. Besides her many years at Gautier Junior High School, Mrs. Ainsworth was the Pascagoula Municipal School District Math Coordinator for several school sessions. She also spent some on her career teaching math at Pascagoula High School.
In addition, she was a part time math instructor at Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College Jackson County campus as well as the University of Southern Mississippi Jackson County campus.
During her many years of teaching, she was awarded several honors including being named Pascagoula Municipal School District Teacher of the Year for the 1990-1991 school year, a 1995 Star Teacher as well as the very first Gautier High School Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal. In addition, the 1988 Gautier Junior High yearbook was dedicated to Mrs. Ainsworth. She would have considered her greatest teaching honor the many students whose lives she touched.
Mrs. Ainsworth was a member of First United Methodist Church of Gautier serving as church Treasurer. She was also a life-time member of Alpha Delta Kappa. Her favorite activities included bunko, traveling, but mostly spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as her numerous friends and other relatives.
Mrs. Ainsworth is survived by her husband of over 53 years, Ronald Ainsworth of Gautier; her two sons, Michael Ainsworth of Houston, TX and Larry Ainsworth of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda Parlin (Malcolm) of Ocean Springs, Deborah Waltman, (Bobby) of Vancleave, MS, and Cynthia Waltman (Robert), Vancleave
Nine grandchildren including Joshua Parlin, Judd Parlin, Jaclyn Parlin, Jennifer Parlin all of Ocean Springs, Mandy Waltman, Bo Waltman, Tyler Waltman, Christina Waltman, and Wesley Waltman all of Vancleave; three great-grandchildren, Aubrey Moody, Anna-Claire Flynt, and Gavin Waltman. She is also survived by her brother Harold Rouse and his wife Kathy of Andalusia, Alabama as well as numerous friends and other relatives.
Visitation will be Monday, February 28, 6:00-8:30 pm at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Gautier on Ladnier Road.
Funeral Service will be Tuesday, February 29, 1:00 pm, at First United Methodist Church in Gautier on Highway 90 with Rev. Ron Stanley and her nephew Rev. Richard Rouse officiating. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the church. The Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
