Sports Magnate. During his tenure as proprietor of the Cincinnati Reds, they clinched four National League Pennants (1970, 1972, 1975 and 1976), including two World Series titles (1975 and 1976). In addition as owner of the Cincinnati Bengals, they reached the Super Bowl twice (1982 and 1989). Raised in Hyde Park (Ohio), he studied at Georgetown University and served with the US Army during World War II. Upon returning home, he attained his law degree from the University of Cincinnati and joined his family's whiskey business R.L. Buse Co. Avidly involved in raising and racing thoroughbreds, Buse and his brother joined the ownership group of the Reds and Bengals during the late-1960s. By the mid-1970s, they served as directors of the Reds and were at that capacity during the "Big Red Machine" era which fielded star players Johnny Bench, Pete Rose and Joe Morgan. (bio by: C.S.)
