Samuel Bunnell was one of the early settlers of Wayne Twp. Crawford Co. PA.
He and an Isaac Bunnell were there as early as 1808. Isaac was a Miller and purchased property from Francis B.Holmes 1 June 1808. Isaac sold this land 2 Oct. 1812 to Thomas Cochran. He married Elizabeth Davis in Loudon Co. VA. Her father consented to the marriage of his dau. Elizabeth to Samuel Bunnels on 29 Aug. 1801. This record can be found in the Loudon Co. VA marriage bond records. He served in the War of 1812 in Crawford Co. PA having enlisted in Capt. James Cochran's Company under Lt. Gen. David Mead from 16 Aug to 2 Sept 1812. This company also served in 1813, however Samuel did not served in the second enlistment period which may indicate he had moved to Venango By the time the Company marched on 19 July 1813. He did not apply or rec. a pension, probably due to the fact that he did not serve 60 days during the war. By 1813 Samuel is in Venango Co. and he may have been there earlier as among the children to be schooled in 180910 are the children of Samuel Bunnell, i.e. Isaac, Sally, Peggy & Alfred. The area where Samuel lived was so close to the Co. line that this may not represent a move. Samuel appeared on the 1823 Militia Roster of Venango Co. age 42 along with his son Isaac age 20. He died about 1866 in Franklin, Venango Co.
