Bowen Farm Supply.

In 1927, L. E. (Brooker) Bowen owned and operated the Gardnersville General Store when he told the International Harvester zone Manager that he knew where he could sell a wagon. Mr. Bowen sold that wagon to Mr. E. G. Meeks and soon after became the local Internationa Harvester dealer. He bought a building in Gardnersville, which at that time was used as a stable for the horses of the local funeral director. There he opened his business, which he called the L. E. Bowen Farm Supply.
Over the years the business grew successfully. That dealership still exists on the same location and is now owned and operated by Arnold E. Ross, Mr. Bowen's son-in-law. Arnold married Joe Bowen and went to work for his father-in-law after being discharged from the Navy in 1958. Mr. Bowen retired from the business and sold it to Arnold in 1969. He then changed the name to Bowen Farm Supply.
The building is still much the same aas it was when mr. Bowen ran the business, with only some remodeling done in the office. The wagon Mr. Bowen sold to Mr. Meeks now sets on the lot of the dealership.
Today the business is mainly a family business, operated by Arnold and his three sons, Mark, Brad, and Matt and a nephew, David Johnson, also a grandson of Mr. Bowen.

Note: as of January 2000 - Bowen Farm Supply is now operated by Mark Ross, Arnold Ross having retied a few years earlier. They carry a complete line of John Deere farm equipment.
