Author. The creator of eight novels and four short story collections, he was noted for his postmodern and darkly humorous takes on the American south. Hannah's first novel, "Geronimo Rex" (1972), was nominated for the National Book Award and won the William Faulkner Prize; his short story collection "High Lonesome" (1996) was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. During his career he won numerous awards and was honored by the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
