U.S. Congressman. He attended Westminster School (1922-25), studied law at Harvard University and was director of Marshall Field & Company (1931-33). Entering politics, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-third Congress, serving 1933-35. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1939, practiced law and was owner-operator of a farm near Wadsworth, Illinois. During World War II, he served in the Pacific as a Captain in the U.S. Marines. After the war, he was the civilian aide to Secretary of the Army Robert Stevens (1953-54) and resumed his farm interests until his death.
