Eighth of 9 children of John Curtis and Eliza Dare Hollaway, as a young teen, Fred served with Civilian Conservation Corps during the depression under Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt.

He then taught school, served in W. W. II, wrote a history of Franklin Co. and served as Chair of Franklin Co. Board and for 26 years as Benton Twp. Supervisor.

He married 1 Jan 1936 Olean Cook. They had three children.
