A Pendleton County native and father of 16 children was found dead Sunday in a creek one and one-half miles south of Petersburg on U.S. Route 220 and a Grant County coroner's jury returned a verdict of death by an unknown hit-and-run driver. Frank J. Alt, about 56, was last seen alive in Petersburg Saturday night at 9:30 o'clock. He had moved to Landes in Grant county around Thanksgiving of last year from Cave Mountain in the Smoke Hole. Mr. Alt's body was found lying in the creek Sunday about noon about 17 feet from the berm of the road. Funeral services were held yesterday morning for Mr. Alt at the Bethel Church of the Brethen and burial was in the Wilson Chapel Cemetery at Brushy Run.
