Jens Jacob JORGENSEN died on the 30th July 1875 on Somes Island which is located in the middle of Wellington Harbour. At the time it was being used as a quarantine island.

A monument on the island lists Jens as Jens Jacob JURGENSEN. A website lists him as being from the Collingwood. The confusion arises maybe from the fact that the Collingwood arrived in Wellington on the 10th July the day before the Lammershagen on which Jens arrived. The Collingwood passenger list has been checked and there is no entry for a Jens Jacob JURGENSEN. The Collingwood was put into quarantine due to the large number of passengers suffering from illness.
