Roby E. Branscome
Roby E. Branscome

Age 80, of Newark, DE, passed away, Friday, February 18, 2011, after a long illness, with his family by his side.

He was born in Dugspur, VA to the late Willie and Clara (Moles) Branscome on February 8, 1931. He was the 6th of 12 children. Roby left Virginia for Delaware at the age of 18 to find work and met the love of his life, Sara. They married and raised 5 children in the Wilmington area. A self taught wood worker, he loved making Adirondack chairs and other furniture and outdoor items for family, friends, and craft shows. His other passion was gardening. His prolific garden and fruit trees supplied family, friends, and others for many years. Sadly, illness and Alzheimer's disease over the past several years kept him from doing what he loved.

Roby will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Sara (Atkinson) Branscome; his children, Ann Blevins (Don), Stephen Branscome, Joyce Ford, Ellen Plummer (Ron), and Sharon Urban (Duane); 5 grandchildren, Donna Granda (Carlos), Christopher Blevins (Darlene), Daniel Blevins, Whitney Penntella, Stephen Urban; 6 great-grandchildren, Aubry and Mekayla Feehly, Cole Granda, Amber, Kyle, and Laura Blevins; his faithful companion, Alice; brother, Willie Branscome (Peggy); sisters, Estelle Howell, Dot Adkins, and Betty Branscome; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clinton, Waitman, Bryan, and Roger Branscome and sisters, Pauleda Yeatts, Almeda Branscome, and Alene Martin.

You are invited to attend Roby's funeral service on Thursday, February 24, at the Gracelawn Memorial Chapel, 2220 N. DuPont Hwy, New Castle, DE 19720 at 11 am. Family will begin to receive guest at 10 am. Interment will follow.
