Orvie Artell McCright, 77, prominent Coggon farmer and livestock dealer, died of acute leukemia Tuesday, July 25, 1995, in University Hospitals, Iowa City. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Zion Presbyterian Church, Coggon. Burial: Coggon Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion, where there will be Masonic services at 7:30 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Edith; two daughters, Sona Christensen and husband Ray of Robins and Marvel Swanson and husband Don of Coggon; his mother, Frances McCright of Northbrook Manor Care Center, Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Brett Christensen of Palo, Tania Dalziel of Shellsburg, Donna Swanson of Coggon, Mary Ellen Bullock of Omaha, Neb., Dian Christensen of Robins and Steve Swanson of Coggon; and five great-grandsons, William, Dustin and Blake Dalziel of Shellsburg and Cody and Casey Christensen of Palo.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ashley; and a brother, Harold.

Orvie was born Jan. 19, 1918, on a farm near Troy Mills, to Ashley and Frances Oldridge McCright.

He was united in marriage to Edith Wagner on Aug. 24, 1938, in Nashua, Iowa. Orvie was a 50-year member of Mecca Lodge, Chapter 523 of Coggon. He was a trustee of the Coggon Fire District, a former director of Coggon Consolidated Schools and a former trustee for Jackson Township. Orvie was a well-known clerk at local sale barns for the past 50 years, having worked for 48 years at the Coggon Sale Barn, where he was still employed. He was owner of McCright Clerking Service for farm and household auctions for the past 25 years.
