Michael E. Heater, 47, of Rock Island died Dec. 6, 2004, at his home after a courageous and inspirational battle with cancer.
Private services will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Lance Armstrong Cancer Research Foundation at P.O. Box 161150 Austin, TX 78716-1150. Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, is handling arrangements.
Michael was born March 22, 1957, in Canton, Ill., the son of John E. and Mary Jeanne Edmonds Heater.
Michael worked in the shipping department at the Sara Lee Bakery in Rock Island. Previously he worked for the Wonder Bakery in Davenport for 10 years, leaving in 2003.
Michael's memberships included the North American Hunting Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed playing cards with his poker buddies.
Michael enjoyed being with his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother and fiance to his beloved Mary.
Survivors include his mother; daughters, Nicole Heater, Lodi, Calif., Rachelle Heater, Manteca, Calif.; two grandchildren, Marcus and Kaylisse Heater; fiancee, Mary Shaw, Geneseo; sisters and spouses, Debbie and Ron Dunbar, Northville, Mich., Pamela and Steve Coates, White Lake, Mich., Terri Heater, Sacramento, Calif., Lori and Jeff Rooker, Loudon, Tenn.; brothers and spouses, John and Joy Heater, Hazal Park, Mich., Brian Heater, Land O Lakes, Fla., Brad and Shelly Heater, Forest Hill, Calif.; several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins. Michael was preceded in death by his father; brother, Greg Heater; sister, Staci Heater; and nephew, Justin Heater.
Michael's family would like to thank his loving and devoted fiancee, Mary Shaw, and would also liked to thank Dr. Constantinou and his staff and also the staff of Pathway Hospice.
