I believe he quite possibly may be a son of John Caskey and Maria "Polly" Sweigart though this has not been proven. Edit: This has now been proven through DNA! Lafayette is indeed descended from John and Maria (Sweigart) Caskey. He would have been about 4 years old when his mother passed away, and six years later, his father also died.
