Ewald Joseph Brugger

Ewald Joseph Brugger, age 92, of Independence Court, died at St. Vincent Health Center on Wednesday, February 9, 2011. He was born in Zurich, Switzerland on February 17, 1918, a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Mallet Brugger.

Ewald moved with his family to the states in 1925, and proudly served his country in the United States Army during WW II, serving in the African and Italian Theaters.

He worked as an assembler with American Sterilizer, retiring in 1983.

Ewald was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Siebenbuerger Club and Summit Lions. He also enjoyed being a bus tour guide, where he met his second wife Agatha.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret Brugger, one daughter Margaret Ford and one sister Alvera Brugger.

He is survived by his wife Agatha Brugger, brother; Eric Brugger of Edinboro, his children; Janice Bartlett and her husband Kevin of Little Hope, Pa., Gary Brugger of Erie, Norman Brugger of Harriman, Tenn., and David Brugger and his wife Charlotte, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a stepson James Menzel and his wife Jacqueline of Erie.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt and Son Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m, and are invited to a funeral service there on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Roy Washill officiating.

Interment will follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
