Last Will And Testament
"I, James Brown, do make, publish and declare this as my last will and testament, hereby revoking all others.*** I first direct that my body be decently interred and my funeral be conducted in a manner corresponding with my estate and situation in life. I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as possible. I direct that my beloved wife, Nancy have the use and benefit of the balance of my estate, both real and personal during her widowhood to me with the following exceptions. Five acres of land in the Northeast corner of the farm on which I live I give to my son Addison, to be run off so as to include the house where he now resides and so much of the income of my estate as shall be sufficient to defray the expenses of teaching my son, Jas. Ambrose the art of reading, writing and arithmetic and furnish the said James Ambrose with a good horse, saddle and bridle when he arrives at the age of 21 years. But if my wife Nancy shall marry after my decease, then and in that case she is to have her portion according to law and no more. And I further direct that after her decease, my son Jas. Ambrose have 70 acres of my land. to be run off and bounded as follows: Commencing at the southeast corner of the lot and running north with the line so far as where a line running west will include the dwelling house in which I now live and the orchard and extending west as far as to where a line running south to the south line of said lot will make 70 acres. The balance of the estate, both real and personal to be sold and my daughters which are now single to receive out of the proceeds thereof, an amount equal to the amount I have given those already named respectively and the balance to be equally divided among my heirs. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this 12th day of December, 1844. (James Brown) Witnesses (Cyrus Bradford and Francis A.
