Present at Champoeg
"Caleb Wilkins Gone" - Hillsboro, Oct. 6 - The old pioneer, Caleb Wilkins, who has long been a landmark in the population in this locality, died last Saturday evening at 6 o'clock, and was buried this forenoon. He only survived his old friend and neighbor, G. W. Ebbert, four days. Both operated as trappers in the Rocky mountains, had many blood-curdling adventures with Indians, and both settled together in this vicinity in 1830. Wilkins was only one month younger than Ebberts, both being octogenarians. They were among the very earliest of the American settlers in Oregon. ref: Oregonian OR 7 Oct 1890
