His daughter Loudell Handy left home Sat. June 12, 1897 for Edinburg because her father was very sick. It is unknown for certain where he is buried. His home was in Mt. Auburn. When his burial site is found this will be updated. Carter Talley Jones and Theresa Decie Talbert Jones' children are: Fanny Jones, Loudell "Lucy" Jones, Elizabeth "Bettie" Jones, Melissa Jones, John W. Jones, Armstead (or Arthur) Talley "Talbert" Jones, and Mary Eaton "Mamie" Jones.

JONES, HASK1NS, was born in Maryland, and married in Jefferson county, Tenn., to Lucy Tolley, and came to Sangamon county, in 1835, settling in Sand Prairie, five miles east of Rochester. They had thirteen children:

~~JOHN F., married Lucinda Pike and died, leaving one child, CHARLES T.

~~ELIZABETH, married John L. Firey. See his name. - FIREY, JOHN L., born Oct. 16, 1829, in Maryland, married April 27, 1854, in Sangamon county, to Elizabeth Jones. He died Jan. 29, 1872, in Rochester, leaving a widow and one son, JAMES M.

~~DAVID C., married Ann Griffith and lives near Breckenridge, Ill.

~~NANCY, married James Campbell, and lives in Edinburg, Ill.

~~MARY P., married John B. Eaton. See his name. - JOHN B., born Dec. 15, 1827, in Bradford, N. H., married in Sangamon county June 16, 1853, to Mary P. Jones, a native of Tennessee. They had ten children. SUSIE died young. MARY J., married Thomas Lee. See his name with the Conant family. WILLIAM W., ANTIONETTE and ANTHONY--twins--CHARLEY, JESSIE, MAY, GRIFFITH and DAISY; the eight latter live with their parents. J. B. Eaton lived in Springfield from 1839 to 1854, when he moved to Christian county, and came back to Springfield in 1866. He is now farming and grain dealing at Edinburg, but resides in Springfield.

~~CARTER T., born Aug. 17, 1834, in Jefferson county, Tenn., married in Sangamon county, April 23, 1863, to Theresa Talbert, has four children, FANNY, LUCY, BETTY and CARTER T., Jun., and lives four miles south of Rochester, Illinois.

~~HASK1NS, Jun., married Lettie Sweet, who died, and he married again, and lives near Breckenridge, Illinois.

~~LUCY J., married John H. Martin, and lives near Taylorville, Illinois.

~~PRISCILLA, married Thomas Stokes. See his name. He died and she married James Lay, and lives in Kansas.

 

Haskins Jones died in 1842, and his widow died April, 1873, in Sangamon, and she in Christian county, Illinois.

Carter Tally-married Patty Galdon ( or Golden) The Goldens came originally from county Tyrone, Ireland, and settled in Virginia. Patty Golden had a brother William who served in the Revolutionary War.

Lucy Talley -married Haskins Jones son of Josiah Jones and Mary Haskins Jones of Maryland. Married in Jefferson County, Tennessee, and came to Illinois in 1835. Haskins Jones served in the war of 1812 and for his services received a grant of 160 acres of land from the government. It was on Sand Prairie near Rochester in Sangamon Co. They had thirteen children-

Lucy Reed , of Boston, wife of Peyton Talley, was related to William Lee the father of Thomas Lee. Lucy Reed's mother was a Lee, and Lucy Lee's mother was a Golden. The Carter Hills, Campbells, Jones, carters are related to the family of Robert E. Lee.


Haskins Jones died in Sangamon Co. in 1842. Lucy Talley Jones died in Christian Co. in 1873.


Haskins Jones, Jr. enlisted in the union army and served through the civil war. Served under Gen. W. T. Sherman and made that famous march to the sea.


A family tradition said ( note by L. Burnett--I'm leaving this paragraph out because it isn't true).


Armstead Tally was grandmother's youngest brother. His youngst son J. Fred Talley came to Edinburg about 1882 and spent a year or two. He visited us many times but made his head- quarters with aunt Nancy Campbell.


He went to Nashville, Tenn, to practice law. I never heard of him again.""
