Mrs. Arnetta Isabella Melvin Bird, 63 years old, died at her home five miles north of Briggsdale, Saturday morning after an illness of two years. She was the wife of W. F. Bird of Briggsdale, whom she married at Clinton, Ill., Feb. 9, 1882. There are six children who survive: Floyd Bird, Briggsdale; Roy E. Bird, Gunnison; Mrs. J. L. Moeller, Milliken; Mrs. E. J. Taylor, Cheyenne; Mrs. H. R. Freitag, Rock Island, Ill. and Charles A. Bird of Briggsdale. Five brothers survive: Charles E. Melvin, Fleming; Clinton E. Melvin and John S. Melvin, Clarion, Ia.; Frank A. Melvin, Stockton, Calif., and George M. Melvin of Sioux City, Ia., George Bird of Greeley is a brother-in- law of the deceased. Mrs. Bird was born at Pekin, Ill., Dec.30, 1862. Mrs. Bird was formerly in the employ of the post office department. She opened three Colorado post offices at Fleming, Briggsdale, and Masters. During her residence at Briggsdale, she took an active part in church and community activities until illness confined her to her home. Funeral services will be held from the Briggsdale church Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Interment in the Briggsdale cemetery. [no date or source noted]
