Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the West Side Cemetery for Longtime Taft resident Odas G. Bess, 89. The Rev. Sam White, pastor of the New Cuyama Assembly of God, will officiate .

Mr. Bess was born in Kennett, Missouri on April 8, 1906 and passed away Nov. 9, 1995 in a local Taft hospital.

He spent his early years in Missouri, arriving in Taft in December 1926 to make his home. Mr. Bess worked for Taft Lumber Company for 17 years and then spent 25 years working for Richfield Oil Company, retiring in 1968.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Bess, in 1991; two daughters, Janet Hickernell in 1978 and Shelia McQuillan in 1967. He is survived by a daughter and her husband, Yvonne and Jim Yorba of Taft; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be at the Taft Funeral Home Monday from noon until 8 p.m. and again Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.
