Death: Sep. 25, 1897

Mrs. Isabella M. DuRant nee Fullerton was born in Sumter County, November 1828. She was converted to Christ and joined the Methodist church when she was about fifteen years of age, and lived a consistent Christian till the day of her death, which occurred on the 25th of September, 1897, in the city of Sumter. On the 19th of January, 1848, she was happily married to Robert W. Witherspoon, of Sumter, who survives her. She was the last member of her family residing in this State, her only brother having died at Charlottesville, Va., during the great civil war. She leaves an aged husband and five children to mourn their loss.

Sister DuRant was a most excellent woman, having exemplified from childhood down to old age the virtues of Christianity. In her daily walk and conversation her Christian character was patent to everyone who knew her, therefore it was not remarkable that she met death calmly and without fear. She was devoted to her husband and family and daily discharged the duties and obligations of a consecrated, godly wife and mother. She loved the church of Christ and up to the time of her protracted illness was always in her pew. She loved the church because she knew Christ in the fullness of His mediatorial office, and though quiet and by no means demonstrative in her religious or social life, she was one of those gentle, quiet natures who drank deep at the fountain of living waters, and who discharged all of her duties from a deep sense of conviction of right. Truly a good woman has gone to her reward. those knew her in this life will know where to find her in the life to come. She lives with Christ. May her trimphant, victorious life and peaceful death bring comfort to her aged husband and devoted children.
