From newspaper obituaries for Edward Payson Beardsley

Dated December 5, 1930
Funeral services for E.P. Beardsley, one of the few surviving pioneers of this section’s pioneer days, were held at the home of his son, E.T. Beardsley, and at the Medford Congregational Church Monday, the Rev. S.M. Hunter of Northfield, pastor of the local church officiating. Burial was made in the family burial plot in the Union Cemetery. Associates of Mr. Beardsley, residents of Richland and Medford, although of a late generation, were pallbearers, including Roy and Eugene Wemple, James and William Stoos, George Hortop and William Boynton.

Coming to Richland Township, Rice County, as a youth 75 years ago, in 1855, Mr. Beardsley had lived the remainder of his life in the vicinity of Medford. He married Miss Amanda Thompson in Faribault during his early life in this section and they settled on a farm in Richland. Actively engaged in farming during most of the period since he came here from the East, he had taken a large part in local agricultural development and in the affairs of his community.

Surviving Mr. Beardsley are four sons and four daughters. The former include John A. Beardsley of Butte, Mont; E.T. Beardsley and L.E. Beardsley of this village, and Walter Beardsley of Harmerville, N.J. The daughters are Mrs. Minnie Howe of San Diego, Cal., and Emma and Olive Beardsley and Mrs. R.H. Hayes of Medford.

According to Minnesota marriage records and census records from 1860-1905, Edward had three wives as follows:
Deborah Ann (Newcomb) Beardsley - married May 12, 1860
Almira Melissa (Janes) Beardsley - married May 12, 1870
Amanda E. (Thompson) Beardsley - married October 8, 1873

With his 1st wife, Edward had two children:
Minnie J. (Beardsley) Howe [1861-?]
John A. Beardsley [1863-1936]

With his 2nd wife, Edward had one son in 1871 who died in infancy.
