Funeral services for Hayward Roger will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the St. John Berchman's Catholic Church in Cankton, LA; Father Bill Melancon will conduct the funeral mass. Mr. Roger, 72, passed away Wednesday, June 10 at his residence in Carencro, LA. was born in St. Landry Parish, LA on May 29, 1937 to the union of the late John Roger, Sr. and Effie Simoneaux.
Hayward had a passion for horses and roosters and attended the chicken fights until his health failed him in 2006. He was a good and loving husband and father and will be missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and all who knew and loved him.
Cherishing his memory will be his loving wife of 47 years: Darnel Roger of Carencro, LA; one daughter: Bernadette Roger (Geno Delafose); two sons: Marcus (Rosella) Roger and Ivan Roger (Dana Fontenot) all of Carencro, LA; two brothers: Russell (Judith) Roger of Bush, LA and John (Julie) Roger, Jr. of St. Bernard, LA; his mother-in-law: Lovenia Royer Guilbeau of Cankton, LA; five grandchildren: Saige Turner, Mindy, Reily, Kayden and Kyleigh Roger all of Carencro, LA; two step-grandchildren: Blaine (Windy) Carriere and Keith "Rocky" Lenormand (Tracy Smith) all of Carencro, LA; three step great-grandchildren: Blaise and Kelsey Carriere, and Keilyn Lenormand all of Carencro, LA; two godchildren: Susan S. Espin of North Carolina and Justin Roger of Slidell, LA; and of host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John Roger, Sr. and Effie Simoneaux Roger; his grandparents: Marius Roger, Evelina Prejean Roger, Clophide Simoneaux and Bernadette Babineaux Simoneaux; his father-in-law: Ned Royer and his Godparents: Shirley Harry Simoneaux and Marie Roger Comeaux.
Visitation services will be observed on Monday, June 15, 2009 from 12;00 P.M. until 12:30P.M. Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Kinchen's Funeral Home in Lafayette, LA. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 P. M. on Monday, June 15. Burial will be in the St. John Berchman's Catholic Church Cemetery.
