Last Sunday night at 12 o'clock, Mrs. Sallie Smith, who was 83 years old, after a long illness, closed her eyes in death. The deceased was the widow of the late Wyatt Smith, her maiden name being Butler, being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Champness Butler, who have been dead for years. The passing of Mrs. Smith removes the last one of that particular family of Butler. In her young days Mrs. Smith was a popular young lady of Adair county. She was invited to all gatherings and was a leading spirit.
The deceased leaves the following children to our knowledge: Mrs. Jo Hutchison, Mrs. W.O. Murrell, Misses Phoebe and Cora Smith, and Mr. Wilbur Smith. Mrs. Smith had been a member of the Christian Church for many years, and when she was in health she was a regular attendant upon services.
She was a kind neighbor, ever ready to wait upon the sick. Her many kind acts will not be forgotten, and the sympathy of the entire neighborhood goes out to all who have been bereft. May God comfort them in their deep sorrow. The funeral was held today (Tuesday), many being in attendance, and flowers were numerous. The interment was in the Butler* graveyard.
